Meet the Consortium: Red Hat

Red Hat is the world’s leading provider of enterprise open-source software solutions, using a community-powered approach to deliver reliable and high-performing Linux, hybrid cloud, container, and Kubernetes technologies. Around the world and in a range of industries, successful companies are using our products (Over 90% of the fortune 500 companies). Our core competence is in the cloud infrastructure domain. Relying on our Linux as the baseline operating system, we combine the capabilities of Virtualizations and OpenStack technologies on one hand, together with Containers and Kubernetes based technologies, on the other hand, to bring an infrastructure that can adapt to traditional workloads (homegrown – existing applications) with new cloud-native applications.

What is your organization’s role in the project? What unique contribution does it bring to the team?

Red Hat’s main role is leading the Resource Management Layer (RM-L) work package (WP3). Our main technical contribution is on developing innovate approaches for the management of compute and storage resources across the IoT-to-edge-to-core continuum. In addition, Red Hat supports the Kubernetes and storage solutions used in the project.

Why is this project important for your organization?

Red Hat considers 5G and edge computing as strategic growth markets. As a leader in open-source multi-cloud solutions, our engineers are deeply involved in the Linux and Kubernetes technologies that drive modern edge computing; this project gives us an opportunity to validate our multi-cloud approach in an unique unified platform as well as to work hand to hand with application developers to understand the requirements of innovative end-to-end IoT/edge applications and use the insight to enhance our future products.
